Wood use classes

The use class defines the level of exposure of the wood to moisture and biological agents. It makes it possible to adapt the treatment to the product’s future use.

Class III

Wood exposed to weather without direct ground contact.

Class IV

Wood in direct ground contact, subject to permanent moisture.

The Bethell process

Did you know?

The Bethell process, used for autoclave treatment, is based on a full vacuum-pressure-vacuum cycle that enables deep injection of a preservation product.

  1. The wood is introduced into the autoclave.
  2. A vacuum extracts the air from the autoclave.
  3. The preservation product fills the autoclave.
  4. The autoclave is pressurised, forcing the product into the wood.
  5. The surplus product is returned to the reservoir for the next cycle.
  6. A final vacuum is applied to remove any excess solution.
  7. The wood is treated.
